ADVANCED DRAWING
Artwork created in Mead High School's Advanced Drawing Class
THE SPOTLIGHT
Terra Forma - Juxtaposition
"How can I show the juxtaposition of light sources and contrasting textures in my painting?" I used watercolors and colored pencils to show the juxtaposition between a graceful ballerina and the rough rocky cave. Just like the ballerinas are the spotlight on a stage, she is in the spotlight of the sun shining down her. Where most people see the beautiful art ballerinas produce, less people see the difficult journey taken to get where they are. This artwork also shows the beauty of man and nature together. The sun is the ultimate spotlight for our world.

MOTHER NATURE'S DEATH
Kill The Pen - Dreams and Nightmares
This artwork is relating around one my fears; that our Earth will one day die and we will not be able to live on it one day. I incorporated the idea of Mother Nature dying and becoming helpless to her Earth in saving it. The representation of Mother Nature's blood is the goop of oil coming out of her. This artwork is meant to inflict emotion of sadness and opens the viewers eyes to a problem we have in the world today.
The artwork was made from a ball point pen, which was a new way to draw for me. My goals for this project was to discover a new technique and become familiar with it, while incorporating emotion along with fears and nightmares into a drawing.

LOZEN ZENOBIA
Character Design - Heroes and Villains Remix
My personal favorite characters in books, movies, and video games tend to be the strong female character- if there is one. I love how powerful and elegant the female body and soul can be. In this artwork, my original character, Lozen Zenobia, stands strong. Her name Lozen and Zenobia each represent a real female warrior and leader from the past. She is a fighter that has been hired by a wealthy and royal family to protect their seventh son. While her journey continues to develop in role-playing situations- a strong physical appearance can tell a lot about a character.
This artwork was created using Prisma Color colored pencils on a black piece of paper. Her bright physical traits,
such as her white hair, make her pop out on the dark background. Since Lozen is an archer and female, you can argue that she has similar traits to charcaters like Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games and Wonder Woman from the DC Universe. My goals for this this piece was to dive deeper into character design, and make my character have a more unique, purposeful, and detailed design.
This piece of art exceeds my expectations, and after overcoming a large art block at the beginning of this assignment, I was able to create a piece I love and will inspire me to go one step further next time.

THE COLOR OF MUSIC
Final Exam
The Color of Music is a watercolor piece about my passion for music, specifically my love for playing the clarinet. This piece shows what I see music as; colorful, imaginative, and beautiful. A girl, similar to me, is the main focus of the artwork, and is content and happy playing her clarinet. This element of happiness and enjoying the music was inspired by a piece called Harlem Musicians by Elizabeth Old. The background is a forest of colorful trees and a street. The messy and colorful leaves was inspired by Leonid Afremov's "Glowing Piece" where his painting style was mimicked in my piece.
This artwork was made using multiple brands of watercolor, brushes, and watercolor paper. Detail in the girl's face, hair, and clarinet was created using small sizes of ink pens.
Overall this piece has been my favorite to create in Advanced Drawing, and I am ecstatic that it is my final because it came straight from my heart and soul.
